ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Tritons (15-6, 9-5) made sure to close out the home stand with a win as they defeated the Rockhurst Hawks, 93-72, Monday at Chuck SMith Court.
They also exacted a little revenge on the Hawks, who edged the Tritons 68-67 on Jan. 27.
The offensive production Monday make the most points scored this season by the men in red and gold.
The Tritons hit from the outside, from the inside, from the wing, and so on as five UMSL ballers finished the game with double-digit scoring.
Marty Jackson led all scorers with his 24-point performance.
Jose Grubbs could not be stopped from the outside as he hit for 57 percent from downtown (4-for-7).
Shane Wissink also illuminated the box score from the perimeter as he hit for 67 percent from the outside (4-for-6).
Steve Webb was himself on the defensive front, and was able to run-and-gun in the Tritons' transition game. He finished with 11.
Kellen King hit for 67 percent from the perimeter and finished with 10 points.
In the second half, UMSL was able to get out in transition and secure some easy buckets -- complementing the play of the timely shooting and gap passing.
Jackson hit a pair from the line and King hit one of his three 3-pointers. Rockhurst turned over the rock on the ensuing possession.
Trever Moore's trey put the Tritons up 70-51 with nine minutes remaining.
A loose ball found its way to Webb, who drove the near-side wing, spotting Grubbs who was flying down the opposite sideline.
With Grubbs in full stride, Webb hit his counterpart for the alley-oop.
The Tritons have a full day off tomorrow before they begin preparations for the quick "road trip" to Maryville on Thursday.
UMSL has another quick one on Saturday as they make the 90-minute trek to Rolla to face the Miners of Missouri S&T.
Only three home games remain:
Feb. 19 vs Lindenwood; Feb. 24 vs Southern Indiana (which has been approved for the jump to Division I); and McKendree for Senior Night on Feb. 26.
