ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The UMSL women's basketball team just completed three home games in four days.
Monday evening, the Tritons used a strong second to cruise to the 72-40 GLVC win. This makes 17 wins on the season and seven in a row.
It was a slow start for the Tritons, who led 26-20 at halftime.
But in the second, a more assertive nature and a willingness to pound the paint and play inside-out played into the Tritons' hands.
UMSL finished with 30 points in the paint and led for 36:56.
Kiara Stewart converted an old-fashioned 3-point play with 2:15 remaining in the quarter as the Tritons went up 44-32.
Shania Liburd's ability to drive and kick when necessary complemented her mid-range game -- giving the Tritons added balance throughout the second half.
UMSL shot 60 percent from the field in the third and 65 percent in the fourth quarter.
The Tritons are back on the road as they head to Maryville Thursday, at Missouri S&T Saturday, and at Lewis Feb. 15 in yet another make-up GLVC tilt.
