Softball Sweeps Lewis to Open GLVC Play

ROSEMONT, ILL. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team opened Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Sunday with a sweep of host Lewis. The Tritons prevailed in 11 innings for the 6-4 game one win before rallying for a 7-5 win in the nightcap.

Records: UMSL (13-8, 2-0 GLVC), Lewis (9-9, 0-2 GLVC)

Game 1: UMSL 6, Lewis 4 (11 inn.)

Senior Corinne Daley drove in the game-winning run in the 11th with an RBI double, while junior Morgan Barnoski gave the Tritons an insurance run with a sac fly.

Daley was also responsible for the go-ahead run in the ninth inning before the Flyers countered in the bottom of that frame on a two-out error to extend the game.

Junior Annie Scaramuzzi tossed the complete game to improve to 5-1 in the circle. She struck out a career-high 11 and issued just three walks, while scattering eight hits and allowing two earned runs.

Offensively, UMSL tallied 15 hits, which included two triples from junior McKenzie Lamos. Lamos, junior Megan Brown and sophomore Maddie Snemis all had three hits each.

Lewis tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth, 3-3 in the seventh and 4-4 in the ninth.

Game 2: UMSL 7, Lewis 5

The Tritons scored six unanswered runs over the third and fourth innings to erase a 4-1 deficit.

UMSL put two runs on the board on three hits in the third, including another triple from Lamos and an RBI double from Scaramuzzi.

Then in the fourth, the Tritons struck for four runs on four hits, while also taking advantage of a Flyers error.

Daley drove in two of those runs, while senior Mimi Bradley added an RBI double.

Daley finished with three hits and three RBI. The Tritons tallied nine hits, including three triples and two doubles.

Bradley earned the win in the circle, striking out 10. She walked three, scattered eight hits and allowed five runs, including three earned.
