ROLLA, MO. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team lost a pair of games on Saturday at Missouri S&T in the first doubleheader of a four-game series. S&T took the first game, a seven-inning contest, by a score of 6-4. The Miners won the nine inning night cap 20-11.
Game One
With UMSL (1-9) trailing 1-0 in the second inning,
Ben Beier walked followed by a
Mitchell Green single.
Bryce Kulinski singled on a bunt with one out to load the bases.
Leighton Keller hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Beier and tie the game.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Miners (9-6) held a 2-1 lead. With
Carson Holin on first base,
Clayton Stephens hit a two-run homer to left field to give the Tritons the lead.
The Miners strung together three singles in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game 3-3. S&T would score three more runs in the inning to take a 6-3 lead.
The Tritons tacked on a run in the top of the seventh inning on a
Ben Beier sacrifice fly. The Miners would go on to close out a 6-4 win.
Cade Meier earned the win for the Miners with five innings on the mound and three earned runs. Chasen Anderson secured the two-inning save.
Nick Torres was credited with the loss in four and a third innings. Torres allowed six runs on six hits with two strikeouts.
Game Two
The two offenses stole the show in the second game.
Brandon Olion and
Leighton Keller both singled to start the game. After fielder's choice,
Clayton Stephens singled through the left side to score Keller. With the bases loaded,
Mitchell Green walked to score a second run. Then, a wild pitch added the third Triton run in the top of the first inning.
The Miners scored four runs in the bottom of the first and another four runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead.
With the Miners leading 10-3 in the fifth inning,
Leighton Keller hit a solo home run to left field.
In the top of the sixth,
Mitchell Green homered to left field to score two runs. A two-out, two-RBI single by
Clayton Stephens cut the deficit to 10-8.
Over the next two innings the Miners added 10 runs.
In the top of the eighth inning,
Mitchell Green hit a three-run homer to left field. S&T went on to win 20-11.
Brady Krile took the loss in game two. Ethan Morrow earned the win for S&T.
