WINTER HAVEN, FLA. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team started the Spring Games in Florida going 1-1 during the first day of competition. UMSL lost to the University of Bridgeport in game one, 5-3, before
Annie Scaramuzzi pitched a one hit complete game shutout against Georgian Court University to win the second game 3-0.
Game One
Bridgeport (6-1) took advantage of the Tritons (6-6) coming off a long travel day to score three runs in the first two innings.
It was not long before the Florida weather warmed up the UMSL bats. The Tritons started the scoring in the top of the third when
Corinne Daley took advantage of an error by the second baseman to come around and score on a sacrifice bunt by
Riley Schultz. With two outs and a runner on first,
McKenzie Lamos doubled home a run to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Bridgeport tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning.
Lamos led off the sixth inning with a solo homer, showing no signs of cooling off after last week's outstanding display at the plate.
The Tritons were unable to string a few more hits together and fell to Bridgeport 5-3.
Jenna Towle was credited with the loss on the mound. Towle allowed four earned runs off 10 hits in four innings.
Kaite Burawski threw a complete game for Bridgeport, striking out 10 and allowin two earned runs off four hits.
McKenzie Lamos accounted for two of those hits, a double and a home run, along with two RBI.
Game Two
The UMSL bats were wide awake in game two as the Tritons recorded 10 hits while scoring just three runs.
The way
Annie Scaramuzzi pitched, the Tritons did not need many runs for the win against Georgian Court. Scaramuzzi threw a complete game one hit shutout with eight strikeouts.
Irene Travis, Lamos, Towle, and Schultz all finished the game with two hits a piece.
Hayli Richards started the scoring with an RBI groundout in the second inning.
Lamos and Towle both singled home a run in the third inning to account for the Triton scoring.

Day two for the Tritons consists of a 12:15 p.m. ET game against Holy Family University followed by a 2:45 p.m. ET game against Davenport University. Both games will be played in Winter Haven, Fla.
