ST. LOUIS, MO. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team won their second match in a row on Friday. UMSL topped the University of Illinois Springfield 5-2 in the first home match of 2022. The UMSL men lost to UIS 5-2 at the Dwight Davis Courts in Forest Park.
Women
The UMSL women (3-4) started the match off with a pair of doubles wins to secure the first point against UIS (4-6).
Odette Beagrie and
Leticia Lunge won the top doubles match 6-3.
Anna Domingo and
Tara Erler won No. 2 doubles, 6-4, to win the doubles point. Riann Hsu and Piper Schrepferman won the final doubles match for the Prairie Stars, 6-4, over
Maja Lietzau and
Clara Lopez Bueno.
Odette Beagrie won No. 1 singles over Sina Skelstad for the Tritons. Beagrie won the first set 6-4, but Skelstad took the second set in a tiebreak, 7-6. Beagrie won the point with a third set clincher.
Anna Domingo took No. 2 singles to three sets, but fell to Carmen Llopis Fabra.
Maja Lietzau won the third singles match by winning sets one and two, 6-4, 6-4.
Riann Hsu won No. 4 singles 6-4, 6-0 over
Leticia Lunge.
Tara Erler won the first set of No. 5 singles 7-5. Piper Schrepferman won the second set 6-0. Erler won the final set 10-6.
Clara Lopez Bueno won the No. 6 singles match, 6-0, 6-1, to give UMSL a 5-2 win over UIS.
The Tritons play at home on Sunday in a women's tennis match against the University of Southern Indiana starting at 1 p.m.
Men
Illinois Springfield (5-5) won the three doubles matches each by a score of 6-3. Sebastian Jonsson and Menno Servaes won the No. 1 doubles match over
Karl Heinrichs and
Marcos Navas. Nick Revin and Oscar Toro took the second doubles match against
Jose Mayorga and
Raphael Kerndl. Matthew Lapsley and Tomas Martinez won the third doubles match over
Juan Vigil and
AJ Bower.
Menno Servaes claimed the No. 1 singles match over
Marcos Navas 6-3, 6-1 for the Prairie Stars.
Tomas Martinez won the second singles match against
Juan Vigil, 6-3, 6-2.
Nick Revin topped
Jose Mayorga in No. 3 singles in three sets. Revin and Mayorga traded 6-4 set wins. Revin won the final set in a 7-6 tiebreak.
Raphael Kerndl won No. 4 singles with a first set win of 6-4. Kerndl won the second set in a 7-6 tiebreaker.
Karl Heinrichs fell in the first set of No. 5 singles 6-4. Heinrichs bounced back with a 6-3 win in set two and a dominant 6-0 win in set three.
Matthew Lapsley defeated
AJ Bower 6-0, 6-0 in No. 6 singles.
The UMSL men take on Maryville University at home on Tuesday at 10 a.m. The match will be played at the Dwight Davis Courts in Forest Park.
