PARKVILLE, MO. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team rallied for a 5-2 win in the first of two games at GLVC foe William Jewell on Sunday, while the Cardinals posted a 6-2 win in the nightcap.
Records: UMSL (19-12, 8-4 GLVC), William Jewell (8-18, 4-8 GLVC)
Game 1: UMSL 5, William Jewell 2
A five-run seventh inning erased a 2-0 deficit and powered UMSL to the win.
The Tritons put their first five batters on base in that frame and got on the board courtesy of a WJC bases loaded error, while junior Annie Scaramuzzi followed with an RBI single to even the score at 2-2. Senior Anna VanGundy later delivered a one-out RBI single to the pitcher to give UMSL a 3-2 lead it would not relinquish. Junior Maddie Snemis accounted for the final score with a two-out, two-run single.
Snemis led the offense by going 4-for-5 at the plate, while VanGundy was 3-for-4. The Tritons tallied 11 hits.
The Cardinals crossed the plate twice in the second inning, capitalizing on a pair of Triton errors to go along with two hits, for their early 2-0 advantage.
Junior Jenna Towle earned the win in six shutout innings of relief. She struck out five and walked one. William Jewell recorded four hits - all coming before Towle entered the game in the second inning after the Cardinals scored their two runs.
Game 2: William Jewell 6, UMSL 2
Both teams recorded nine hits, but the Tritons left 12 runners on base in the loss.
Sophomore Riley Schultz used an RBI single in the first inning for a 1-0 UMSL lead before the Cardinals scored six unanswered, including two in the first and four in the fourth.
Snemis recorded her third RBI of the day in the sixth inning on a single down the right field line for UMSL's other run.
Brown and senior Corinne Daley had two hits each.
