QUINCY, ILL. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's and women's tennis teams earned a pair of road Great Lakes Valley Conference wins at Quincy University on Sunday. The men won 6-1 against QU while the UMSL women topped the Hawks 5-2.
Men
The Tritons (2-8, 1-0 GLVC) won two-of-three doubles matches and five singles matches to claim the win over Quincy (2-11, 0-3).
Marcos Navas and
Karl Heinrichs won No. 1 doubles 6-4.
AJ Bower and
Juan Vigil also won 6-4 in No. 2 doubles to secure the doubles point.
Four of six singles matches went to three sets. Navas won the first and third set by a score of 6-3 in No. 1 singles. Ettore Pavesi won the second set 6-4.
Vigil dropped the first set 6-1, but answered with a pair of 7-5 wins in set two and three to win No. 2 singles.
Jose Mayorga claimed the No. 3 singles win with a pair of 7-5 set wins.
Raphael Kerndl lost No. 4 singles set one 6-4, but won the second set 6-4 before winning by opponent retirement in the third set.
Heinrichs dropped the first set 6-4 in the No. 5 singles match. He would go on to win the second and third set by scores of 6-2.
Women
UMSL (7-5, 2-0 GLVC) won five singles matches to rebound from dropping the doubles point to Quincy (5-10, 1-1 GLVC) and remain undefeated in conference play.
Quincy won No. 1 doubles 6-2 and claimed No. 2 doubles 6-4 to take the lead entering singles play.
The Tritons bounced back in singles play.
Odette Beagrie won the No. 1 singles match 6-3, 6-4.
Anna Domingo cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win in No. 2 singles.
Maja Lietzau won the first set, 6-4, in No. 3 singles. After falling in set two, 6-3, Lietzau won the deciding set, 6-1.
Leticia Lunge dropped the opening set of No. 4 singles, 6-4. Lunge flipped the score in the second set to twin 6-4. She would breeze to a 6-0 win in set three.
Tara Erler swept No. 5 singles with a pair of 6-0 set wins.
QU won the No. 6 singles match by default.
