St. Louis – Illinois Springfield scored in the first four innings and limited the University of Missouri – St. Louis Baseball team to two hits as the Prairie Stars defeated the Tritons 10-1 Tuesday afternoon at the UMSL Baseball Field in St. Louis, Mo.
How it Happened – The Prairie Stars opened the scoring in the first frame with an RBI single to right field to take an early 1-0 lead over the Tritons. UIS added to the lead in the second with another RBI single to extend the advantage to 2-0.
UIS continued to extend the lead in the third with a pair of runs on a solo home run and a bases-loaded wild pitch to push the Prairie Star lead to 4-0. The UIS offense continued to produce in the top of the fifth as they extended their advantage on a three-run homer over the left-field wall to make the score 7-0.
The Tritons cracked the scoreboard in the home half of the seventh as
Clayton Stephens was hit by a pitch and scored after a pair of wild pitches to cut the UIS lead to 7-1.
The Prairie Stars added to the lead in the top of the ninth as they added three runs on a pair of extra-base hits and a run-scoring sacrifice fly to run the score to 10-1.
Brandon Olion accounted for both Triton hits in the contest while
Bryce Kulinski and Issac Powers each drew a walk in the loss for UMSL.
