Stephens Powers Tritons to Doubleheader Sweep of Lindenwood

St. Louis – Clayton Stephens scattered four hits with a pair of home runs and drove in seven runs as the University of Missouri – St. Louis baseball team swept Lindenwood Friday afternoon at the UMSL Baseball Field in St. Louis. Stephens had a round-tripper and three runs in the opener as the Tritons won 5-4. Stephens then had three hits including a walk-off two-run double to give UMSL a 4-3 victory and a conference doubleheader sweep.

Game One – The Tritons opened the scoring in the bottom of the second as Logan Mantz launched a home run over the center-field wall to put UMSL on top 1-0. The long ball for Mantz was his third of the season.

The Lions took the lead in the top of the third with a two-run blast down the right-field line to grab a 2-1 advantage. That did not last for long as Clayton Stephens launched a three-run shot over the left-field wall to put the Tritons out in front 4-2.

The Tritons added to the lead in the bottom of the fifth as Jared Bryant lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score Mitchell Green, who reached base after being hit by a pitch to open the inning, to push the advantage to 5-2.

The Lions cut into the UMSL lead in the sixth with an RBI single with two outs to make the score 5-3. Lindenwood continued to rally in the sixth as they pushed another run on a passed ball to cut the Tritons lead to 5-4.

The Lions tried to even the game in the seventh, but Isaac Powers slammed the door shut with a scoreless frame to earn his first save of the season as starter Brady Krile tossed five solid innings with six strikeouts to garner his first win this season.
