INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team fell to the fifth-ranked University of Indianapolis in a Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) road doubleheader on Saturday. UIndy won game one 3-2. Haylie Foster of UIndy threw a no-hitter in a 4-0 win in game two.
Game One
UIndy (37-5, 17-3 GLVC) scored in the first inning when Emily O'Connor doubled to left center to score Lexy Rees.
UMSL (26-15, 15-7 GLVC) answered in the top of the third.
Riley Schultz singled to lead off the inning.
Maddie Snemis walked with two outs to bring
Megan Brown to the plate. Brown singled up the middle to score Schultz and knot the game at 1-1.
The Tritons took the lead in the fourth inning when
Corinne Daley singled to left and advanced to second on an error.
Annie Scaramuzzi reached first on an error by the second baseman to move Daley to third. Schultz singled up the middle to score Daley. The Tritons would load the bases, but UIndy pitched out of the jam to keep the score at 2-1.
The Greyhounds regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth. The inning started when Sydnie Foster reached on an error by the Triton third baseman. Dominique Proctor hit a homer to left field to put UIndy up 3-2. Megan Nichols doubled, but
Megan Brown struck out the next two Greyhounds swinging before getting a line out to end the threat.
Kenzee Smith kept the Tritons off the board for the rest of the game. Smith threw a complete game allowing one earned run on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
Mimi Bradley started the game for the Tritons and threw two and two-thirds innings allowing a run.
Megan Brown was credited with the loss throwing three and one-third innings and allowing one earned run.
Game Two
Nichols doubled with one out in the bottom of the first for the Greyhounds. O'Connor walked with two outs. Nichols and O'Connor advanced on a wild pitch. Gianni Iannantone singled up the middle to score two runs.
Proctor and Nichols had back-to-back singles to start the third inning for UIndy. Proctor and Nichols moved up a base on a wild pitch and Rees hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Proctor from third.
The Greyhounds scratched their last run of the game across in the fourth inning. Tara Williams led off with a double to left field. Williams was moved over by a sacrifice bunt. Sydnee Perry hit a sac fly to center to score Williams giving UIndy a 4-0 lead.
In the circle for the Greyhounds, Haylie Foster threw her first career no-hitter allowing a walk and a runner to reach on an error. Foster finished with three strikeouts.
Annie Scaramuzzi threw six innings for the Tritons. Scaramuzzi allowed four runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts.
