ST. LOUIS, MO. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's and women's tennis teams fell to Northwest Missouri State University on Saturday at the Dwight Davis Courts in Forest Park. The UMSL men lost 6-1 against NWMSU. The Triton women fell 7-0 to the Bearcats.
Men
The Tritons (1-8) won the first doubles match against the Bearcats (8-4).
Marcos Navas and
Karl Heinrichs combined for their fourth win of the season in a 6-4 match win.
Simon Birgerson and Mason Meier won the second doubles match 6-3. Franco Oliva and Fabien Calloud won the final doubles match, 6-2, to earn the doubles point for NWMSU.
Andrea Zamurri won the top singles match against
Marcos Navas 7-5, 6-4.
Fabien Calloud defeated
Juan Vigil 6-4, 6-1 in No. 2 singles.
Jose Mayorga won the first set of No. 3 singles, 6-4. Mason Meier would win the next two sets 6-1, 6-2.
Raphael Kerndl earned the Tritons' point in No. 4 singles. Kerndl won the first set 6-1. Simon Birgerson flipped the score in the second set to tie the match. Kerndl battled to a 10-8 third set tiebreaker to win the match.
Fillippo Piranomonte topped
Karl Heinrichs in No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-3.
Martin Sanchez won 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 6 singles match against
AJ Bower.
Women
The Tritons (5-5) were shorthanded on Saturday against NWMSU (12-5). The Bearcats won No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles by default.
Anna Domingo and
Tara Erler defeated Julia Aliseda and Sofia Pignataro 6-2 in No. 2 doubles. Tessa Kwakernaak and Vera Alenicheva topped
Odette Beagrie and
Leticia Lunge 6-3 in No. 1 doubles to win the doubles point.
The Bearcats swept singles play to win 7-0.
Odette Beagrie took Vera Alenicheva to a tiebreaker in the first set of No. 1 singles. Alenicheva wo the tiebreaker 10-3 to claim the first set 7-6. Alenicheva won the second set 6-1.
Tyffaine Pais won No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-3 against
Anna Domingo.
Leticia Lunge won the first set of No. 3 singles 6-2. Julia Aliseda won the second set 6-2 and claimed the third set 10-4.
Sofia Pignataro topped
Tara Erler in the first set of No. 4 singles, 6-2. Erler won the second set 7-5. Pignataro escaped with a 10-8 third set win to claim the match.
Carolina Lima De Oliveira won No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-0, over
Clara Lopez Bueno.
