UMSL Tennis Wins Two Matches Against Rockhurst

ST. LOUIS, MO. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's and women's tennis teams won their matches against Rockhurst University on Friday at the Dwight Davis Courts in Forest Park. The UMSL men won 5-2. The Triton women won 6-1.

Men
The Tritons (3-10, 2-2 GLVC) picked up the doubles point against Rockhurst (8-9, 2-3 GLVC) with a pair of wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Juan Vigil and AJ Bower won No. 2 doubles 6-2. Raphael Kerndl and Jose Mayorga took No. 3 doubles 6-4. RU won No. 1 doubles 6-4.

The Tritons won four singles matches to clinch the match.

Marcos Navas won No. 1 singles 6-2, 7-5, followed by a 6-4, 7-5 No. 2 singles win by Vigil.

Kerndl breezed to a 6-2, 6-1 win in No. 4 singles for the Tritons.

Karl Heinrichs won No. 5 singles 6-4, 6-2 to secure the fifth point for the Tritons.

Women
UMSL (8-7, 3-2 GLVC) was at full strength against Rockhurst (9-9, 3-3 GLVC) and it proved important in doubles play. Odette Beagrie and Leticia Lunge won No. 1 doubles 6-2, but Rockhurst claimed No. 2 doubles 7-5. The Tritons would win the doubles point when Maja Lietzau and Clara Lopez Bueno won No. 3 doubles, 6-3.

Beagrie put the Tritons up 2-0 after a 6-3, 6-1 win in No. 1 singles.

Tara Erler claimed No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-4 for a third point for UMSL.

Anna Domingo lost the first set of No. 2 singles, 6-2, before winning sets two and three, 6-3, 6-4, to take the match.

Maja Lietzau won the first set of No. 3 singles, 6-4. Lietzau fell, 6-1, in the second set, but rebounded for a 6-2 win in set three.

Clara Lopez Bueno lost the first set of No. 6 singles 6-1. Lopez Bueno battled through a 7-6 tiebreak second set and went on to claim the third set as well, 10-6.

Leticia Lunge won the first set of No. 4 singles, 6-3, but Rockhurst went on to win the second set tiebreak and the third set, 10-4.

The Tritons conclude the regular season with a match against William Jewell College at the Dwight Davis Courts in Forest Park starting at 4:30 p.m. Senior Day festivities will be held prior to the match at 4 p.m.
