Tritons Gain Split with Rockhurst

St. Louis – The University of Missouri – St. Louis baseball team used 15 hits in the opening game of the day en route to earning a split with Rockhurst Saturday afternoon at the UMSL Baseball Field in St. Louis, Mo. The Tritons won the first game of the day 13-4 while the Hawks had 13 hits to win the nightcap 16-3 in seven innings.
 
Game One – After a scoreless first inning, the Hawks jumped out to an early lead with a two-run homer to center field to give Rockhurst a 2-0 advantage. 
 
The Tritons cut into the Hawks lead in the home half of the fourth as Clayton Stephens launched a solo home run over the left center field wall to make the score 2-1. After Logan Mantz singled and moved to third on a throwing error by the catcher, Mitchell Green reached base on a catcher's interference call to put runners on the corners. Mantz scored on a single by Matt DiMemmo to even the game at 2-2. UMSL took the lead after a throwing error plated two runs and Olion hit an RBI single to make the score 5-2.
 
Rockhurst cut the UMSL lead to one with a two-run single in the top of the fifth to make the score 5-4 and still threatened with runners at first and second as Trent Anderson entered the game with one out and stopped the rally as he forced a groundout and then a strikeout to end the Hawks uprising. 
 
The Tritons broke the game open in the home half of the sixth as UMSL sent 12 batters to the plate to score eight runs on seven hits to extend the lead to 13-4. Kameron Laskowski and Stephens each had RBI singles while Green ripped a three-run blast over the left-field wall to give the Tritons a 10-4 advantage. Leighton Keller then drove in a pair of runs with a double and scored as Carson Holin laced a triple into the right-center field gap to make the score 13-4.

Game Two – The Hawks once again grabbed an early lead in the top of the first as they hit another two-run home run to go on top 2-0. Rockhurst added to the lead in the second as they sent up 12 batters and scored six runs on five hits and took advantage of three Tritons errors to take an 8-0 lead. The Hawks took advantage of another UMSL error in the third to add a run as it pushed the score to 9-0. 
 
Rockhurst's offense continued to produce in the fourth as the Hawks scored six more runs on four hits to extend the advantage over the Tritons to 15-0.
 
UMSL cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning as Holin and Mantz each drew walks and scored on an Olion single up the middle to cut the Rockhurst lead to 15-2. The Hawks tacked an insurance run in the sixth to push the advantage to 16-2. 
 
The Tritons kept battling in the home half of the sixth as DiMemmo doubled to open the inning and moved to third on a Mantz single. DiMemmo scored on a wild pitch to cut the Hawks lead to 16-3.
