The University of Missouri - St. Louis baseball team dropped a pair of non-conference games Tuesday afternoon to the visiting Quincy Hawks at the UMSL Baseball Field. The Tritons lost the first game the Hawks won by a score of 17-2, then lost the second game 12-7.
GAME ONE:
The Hawks got on the board early with a two-run home run by Lance Logsdon in the bottom of the first, then struck again in the second plating two more runs to make it a 4-0 ball game.
Quincy took advantage of three walks in the third inning and plated five more runs on three hits in the frame, extending their lead to nine runs.
The Hawks put another run up in the 4th without recording a hit.
With two outs in the 4th, the Tritons put two runs on the board courtesy of a double off the bat of Jared Bryant, cutting the Hawks lead to eight.
The Hawks responded in the 5th with four more runs to make it 14-2, then three more in the 6th to make it the final score of 17-2.
Winning Pitcher: Tyler Carpenter (2-1) 6 innings, 7 hits, 2 runs, 0 earned runs
Losing Pitcher: Grant Brunstetter (0-3) 2 innings, 2 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned runs
GAME TWO:
The Hawks loaded the bases in the first inning via two Triton errors and a walk. With one out, they plated two runs on a double from Wosman, then tacked on another two before the end of the frame to jump out to a four run lead. The Hawks added another two runs in the third inning to make it 6-0.
In the fifth inning, the Hawks' bats came alive and Quincy plated six runs on seven hits to extend their lead to 12.
The Tritons responded in the 5th inning when Kam Laskowski drove in Brandon Pasley from third base on a ground ball that the second baseman could not come up with cleanly. Logan Mantz then drove in Brandon Olion with a base hit to right field to make it 12-2.
The Tritons had a spark in the sixth inning and plated five runs, taking advantage of five walks to make it a 12-7 game.
Winning Pitcher: Nolan Roseman (2-3) 3.0 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs
Losing Pitcher: Reece Kulick (0-1) 3.0 innings, 7 hits, 6 runs, 1 earned run.
Brandon Olion finished with four hits on the day, including three doubles in game two, and Mantz reached base safely four times on the day.
