ST. LOUIS, MO. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team closed out the regular season on Sunday with a split against GLVC foe McKendree. The visiting Bearcats won the opener, 2-1, while the Tritons took the nightcap, 3-1.
Prior to the contest, UMSL honored its four graduating players - Ali Schoon, Hayli Richards, Sara Fredrickson and Corinne Daley.Â
Records: UMSL (28-21, 16-12 GLVC), McKendree (20-24, 12-16 GLVC)
Game 1: McKendree 2, UMSL 1
UMSL suffered the loss despite out-hitting McKendree, 8-3.Â
The Bearcats scored their two runs on a first inning two-run homer, while the Tritons got the one run back in the third on an RBI groundout from junior McKenzie Lamos.Â
Graduate student Megan Brown, junior Irene Travis and freshman Courtney Settles had two hits each.Â
The Tritons left seven runners on base, including bases loaded in the second inning.
Brown suffered the loss in the circle, striking out seven.Â
Game 2: UMSL 3, McKendree 1
All runs scored in the game came in the third inning. After the Bearcats got on the board courtesy of a sac fly in the top of the frame, UMSL got a two-run double from Brown, followed by an RBI single from Lamos.
UMSL finished with six hits to McKendree's four with Travis notching her second double of the day.
Junior Annie Scaramuzzi earned the win in six innings of work. She struck out seven and walked two. Senior Mimi Bradley earned the save in the final inning.
Up Next: UMSL is at the GLVC Tournament Thursday-Saturday. The Tritons will learn of their opponent when the league office releases the tournament bracket.Â
