St. Louis – The University of Missouri – St. Louis baseball team was limited to two hits as Maryville defeated the Tritons 9-1 in the series opener Friday afternoon at Weber Field in St. Louis.
How it Happened – After a scoreless first inning, the Saints scored a pair of runs on two hits to take an early 2-0 lead over the Tritons. UMSL answered in the home half of the second as
Mitchell Green hit his seventh home run of the year to cut the Saints lead to 2-1.
Maryville added to the advantage in the top of the fourth with five runs including a grand slam homer to push the lead to 7-1. The Saints tacked on another run in the fifth to extend the lead to 8-1. Maryville pushed across an insurance run in the ninth to take a 9-1 lead and retired the Tritons in order in the home half of the inning to secure the series-opening win.
