St. Louis – The University of Missouri – St. Louis could not overcome a pair of big innings as Maryville swept the Tritons in Great Lakes Valley Conference action Saturday afternoon at the UMSL Baseball Field. The Saints held the Tritons to a pair of hits en route to defeating UMSL 7-1 in the opener. Maryville then scored in four of the first five innings to win the nightcap 5-0.
Game One – After a pair of scoreless innings to start the game, the Saints hit five straight singles in the top of the third to score four runs to push ahead of UMSL 4-0. The Saints added a run in the fifth on a homer to center field to extend the lead to 5-0.
The Tritons cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth as
Carson Holin drew an inning-opening walk and moved to third as
Brandon Olion singled to right field. Holin scored on a wild pitch to cut the Maryville lead to 5-1.
The Saints added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh to push the advantage to 7-1 as the Saints retired the Tritons in order in the home half of the seventh to claim the opening game victory.

Game Two – The Saints opened the scoring in the second by using a walk, a stolen base, and a sacrifice bunt to take an early 1-0 lead over the Tritons. Maryville added to the advantage with a run in both the third and fourth innings and then hit a two-run home run in the fifth to push the lead to 5-0.
The Tritons best scoring chance in the early innings was in the third as Olion singled with one out while
Kameron Laskowski and
Clayton Stephens were each hit by pitches to load the bases. But the uprising ended on a double play by the Saints to get them out of the inning.
