CLEVELAND, Miss. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team fell to Delta State 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Delta Field in Cleveland, Miss. The Tritons fall to 1-1 on the season while the Lady Statesmen move to 1-1.
UMSL came out firing early taking three shots in the first 10 minutes but it was Delta State that got on the board first on Hannah James goal in the 18th minute. The Tritons had four chances at getting the equalizer including one that hit the crossbar in the 24th minute. The Lady Statesmen added to their lead late in the first half on Carra Hymel's goal in the 38th minute with an assist from Jae'lasha Julien.
The Tritons had two chances in the 75th minute but
Mia Milazzo's shot was blocked and
Kendal White missed the follow up attempt wide.
Each team had 11 shots in the contest with Delta State putting the only two on goal. Milazzo led the Tritons with five shots in the contest while
Jaycee Cotton had two.
UMSL continues its five-game road trip to open the season on Thursday (Sept. 1) when it travels to Maryville, Mo., to take on Northwest Missouri State at 3 p.m. at Bearcat Pitch.
