ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 contest to Northwest Missouri State on Thursday afternoon at Bearcat Pitch in Maryville, Mo. The Tritons drop to 1-2 while the Bearcats improve to 2-0-1.
NWMSU dominated the opening half outshooting UMSL 10-1 and scored the first two goals of the contest. Hannah Stirling scored the first goal in the ninth minute with an assist from Kaylie Rock. The Bearcats added another goal 9:39 later when Teagan Blackburn scored with an assist from Rock.
NWMSU extended its lead early in the second stanza when Kaitlyn Case scored on a penalty kick in the 52nd minute.
The Tritons got on the board in the 77th minute on
Kendal White's unassisted goal. The Tritons had a chance to draw closer with 3:34 remaining but
Mia Milazzo's penalty kick was saved by Grace Goetsch.
UMSL outshot the Bearcats 9-5 in the second half but NWMSU finished the contest with a 15-10 advantage in shots including 8-3 in shots on goal. The Tritons had four corner kicks to three for the Bearcats.
Milazzo and White combined for seven of UMSL's 10 shots in the contest.
Paige Schwartz made five saves in goal.
The Tritons continue their road trip on Sunday as they head to Owensboro, Ky., to take to on Kentucky Wesleyan at 2 p.m. at Panther Field.
