ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team dropped its GLVC opener at Lewis 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Lewis Stadium in Romeoville, Ill. The Tritons drop to 2-3, 0-1 GLVC while the Flyers improve to 3-2, 1-0 GLVC.
Lewis struck first scoring 3:27 into the game as Camerson Sengstock scored from the center of the 18-yard box off a pass from Melisa Hadzic.
UMSL evened the score in the 19th minute as
Jalyn Richardson got on the end of a loose ball from approximately eight yards out and tucked it inside the left post for her team leading second goal of the season.
The Flyers outshot the Tritons 10-6 in the first 45 minutes including 5-3 in shots on goal.
UMSL had three chances to take the lead in the first 20 minutes of the second half but were unable to get them past Bekah Nielsen. Richardson had an attempt in the 52nd minute,
Mia Milazzo had an attempt 90 seconds later and Milazzo had another chance in the 64th minute that was stopped by Nielsen.
Lewis scored the game-winner with 1:38 remaining. The Flyers played a ball ahead from their own half as Cosa Bella Milazzo ran it down on the left side and played it into the box where Sengstock was able to get on the other end of it knocked it into the lower left corner for her second goal of the contest.
Lewis outshot the Tritons 15-12 in the contest including 7-6 in shots on goal.
Mary Kate Neal made five saves in goal for UMSL and Richardson, Milazzo and
Grace Osvath had two shots apiece.
The Tritons host Quincy in their home opener this Friday night at 5 p.m. at Don Dallas Field.
