Women’s Soccer Blanks Quincy In Home Opener

ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team defeated Quincy 2-0 in its home opener on Friday evening at Don Dallas Field. The Tritons improve to 3-3, 1-1 GLVC while the Hawks drop to 0-3-3, 0-1-1 GLVC.

UMSL struck early scoring in the eighth minute as Candice Parziani found Maya Ware in the box who beat Olivia Kindt to the upper right corner for her second goal of the season.

Quincy had a couple of chances midway through the half but both shots missed wide.

The Hawks tried to even things up late in the half but Paige Schwartz denied Meagan Mero to keep the Tritons in front at the break.

Quincy kept the pressure on early in the second half but were unable to come up with the equalizer as Schwartz made three saves and then Jalyn Richardson tacked on an insurance goal in the 87th minute as she beat Kindt with assists from Mia Milazzo and Karley Kinzinger.

The Hawks outshot UMSL 11-9 for the contest but each team had five shots on goal. Schwartz made a season-high five saves to earn her first shutout of the season.

The Tritons continue their homestand on Sunday hosting Illinois Springfield at 12 p.m. at Don Dallas Field.
