Anna Domingo finished as the runner-up of the A Singles Draw at the Southwest Baptist Invitational to highlight action for the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team this past weekend in Bolivar, Mo. The Tritons went 6-2 in singles competition and 1-2 in doubles play over the three-day tournament.
Domingo opened the tournament with a quarterfinal win over Harding's Karli Roux. Domingo dropped the opening set 4-1 but rallied to win the last 4-2 and 10-6 in a third set tie-break. She then defeated
Southwest Baptist's Paula Ballesteros 4-2 and 5-3 to advance to the final. She lost in the final to McKendree's Manuela Barriga by walkover.
Senior
Maja Lietzau and freshman
Hannah Tse advanced to the consolation final in A Draw. Lietzau beat McKendree's Camilla Fonseca 8-4 in her semifinal match while Tse beat McKendree's Viola Cipriani 8-3 in the other semifinal.
Domingo and freshman
Anna Favaron lost to Barriga and Maria Salomao 8-7 (7-4) in the doubles competition. Lietzau and Tse went 1-1 in doubles play losing to Harding's Romane Britt and Grace Dodd 8-7 (7-1) but bounced back to defeated McKendree's Rhyan Cook and Mariana Caicedo in the consolation semifinals.
UMSL returns to the courts on Sunday (Sept. 25) as it travels to Fulton, Mo., to take on William Woods at 12 p.m.
