FULTON, Mo. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team won seven of nine matches to defeat William Woods 5-2 in its first dual match of the season on Sunday afternoon in Fulton, Mo.
The Tritons (1-0) won all three doubles matches against the Owls (0-1) to win the first point of the match.
Maja Lietzau and
Hannah Tse beat Hanna Lindeboom and Marta Calvo Larrarz 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. In the second doubles match it was
Anna Domingo and
Anna Favaron winning 6-4 over Eline Drent and Lena Greefs. The final doubles match went to the duo of
Lisa Kirr and
Kaitlyn Challis as they beat Lilla Komiszar and Zara Littlejohn 6-3.
UMSL sealed the victory by winning four of the six singles contests. Domingo knocked off Lindeboom 6-4 and 7-6 (7-1) at number one singles. Lietzau beat Larraz 6-1, 7-5 in the second singles match. Tse beat Drent in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 in the fourth singles and contest and Favaron defeated Littlejohn in three sets. Favaron dropped the first set 6-3 but rallied to win the final two 6-1 and 10-3.
The Tritons return to the courts this weekend as they compete in the SIUE Invitational.
