ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team scored four first half goals on its way to a 4-1 win over Quincy on Friday evening at Don Dallas Field. The Tritons improve to 3-2-1, 2-0 GLVC while the Hawks fall to 2-3-2, 0-2 GLVC.
UMSL scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the contest. The first goal came off a corner kick in the fifth minute.
Jack Meuse served a corner kick into the box. The ball was headed around from
Tommy Naumann to
Gabe Stanislawski to
Nick Schreiber who headed it in for his second goal of the season.
The Tritons scored off another set piece in the 10th minute as
Leo Sowa served another corner kick into the box to Stanislawski who put it in for his first goal of the season.
Arman Kovac scored twice in the span of 5:19 to extend the lead to 4-0. His first goal game in the 24th minute as he got on the end of a cross from
Bradley Fritsche for his third goal of the season. Kovac scored again in the 30th minute. Sowa crossed a ball into the top of the box and Kovac was able to beat David Fitzgerald for his team leading fourth goal of the season and third in his last two games.
UMSL outshot Quincy 9-0 in the first 45 minutes including four shots on goal.
The Hawks had a chance to get on the board in the 57th minute but Macker Little's shot was cleared off the line to keep the clean sheet intact. Little had another chance about eight minutes later as he ran down a long pass from Nick Chapman and beat
Austin Reis for his third goal of the season.
The Tritons finished the contest with a 12-9 advantage in shots including 8-3 in shots on goal. UMSL had 10 corner kicks to seven for Quincy.
UMSL continues its homestand on Sunday as it hosts Illinois Springfield at 2:30 p.m. at Don Dallas Field.
