ST. LOUIS - The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Illinois Springfield at Don Dallas Field on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops the Tritons to 3-4, 1-2 GLVC while the Prairie Stars improve to 3-3-2, 2-1 GLVC.
Illinois Springfield held position in UMSL's end of the field for a good portion of the first half and scored on their only shot of the half which came in the 17th minute. Sierra Cenek crossed a ball into the top of the box and Abby Dellamorte scored from about 18 yards out into the upper left corner.
The Tritons had a chance about a minute later but
Grace Osvath missed a shot high and then
Kendal White had a chance in the 31st minute that was saved by Allison Mirimanian.
UMSL had two great chances at the equalizer in the first three minutes of the second half.
Ayana Weissenfluh got a foot on a cross but it went right to Mirimanian 0:33 into the stanza.
Mia Milazzo had a chance in the 48th minute that was saved by Mirimanian.
The Tritons had four more shots in the second half but were unable to put anything on goal.
Paige Schwartz kept the Prairie Stars from scoring in the second half by making two saves.
UMSL outshot UIS 9-7 but each team had three shots on goal. The Prairie Stars had two corner kicks to one for the Tritons.
UMSL is back at home next Friday (Sept. 23) hosting William Jewell at 5 p.m. at Don Dallas Field.
