MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team dropped its second straight contest as it was defeated by William Jewell 2-0 on Friday evening at the Creve Coeur Soccer Complex in Maryland Heights. The Tritons drop to 3-4-1, 2-2 GLVC while the Cardinals improve to 2-1-1, 2-1-1 GLVC.
UMSL controlled play in the first half as it outshot William Jewell 5-1 and had the only two shots on goal of the half. The Tritons best two chances came 0:37 apart late in the first half.
Leo Sowa had a shot saved by Jose Arellano and shortly after
Gabe Stanislawski had his shot saved by Arellano.
The Cardinals broke the scoreless deadlock 10 minutes in the second half as Carson Lee headed home a corner kick from Ethan Nichols for his third goal of the season.
UMSL had two chances less than five minutes later as Stanislawski and
Pedro Favero each were denied the equalizing goal. Stanislawski had a shot saved off the line by a defender and moments later Favero had a shot tipped out of play by Arellano for a corner kick.
William Jewell added an insurance goal with less than 10 minutes to play as Nichols scored his first of the season with an assist from Walker Bond.
The Tritons finished the contest outshooting the Cardinals 13-11 including 6-4 in shots on goal. William Jewell had a 6-4 edge in corner kicks while the fouls were even at eight apiece.
UMSL returns to the pitch on Sunday (Sept. 25) as it travels up to Kirksville to take on Truman State at 2:30 p.m.
