FULTON, Mo. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team was swept by William Woods in its first dual match of the season on Sunday afternoon in Fulton, Mo. The Tritons are 0-1 while the Owls are 1-0.
WWU won all three doubles matches to take the opening point of the dual.
Jose Mayorga and
Joshua Mackey dropped a 6-3 decision to Vaclav Schneider and Vitek Subert in the first doubles match.
Juan Vigil and
Tanin Ramnath came up short in a 7-5 loss to Andrej Jovanovic and Ben Grumely at number two doubles.
Pascal Maclean-Wood and
Raphael Kerndl fell to Zinovii Nahimiak and Robert Schorr 6-4 in the final doubles match.
In singles play, Vigil fell to Schneider 6-1, 6-0 at number one singles. Mayorga dropped a 6-3, 6-2 contest to Nahirniak in the second singles match. Kerndl was beaten by Subert 6-4, 6-1 at number three singles. Mackey dropped a 6-0, 6-0 match to Patrcik Shelepov in the fourth singles contest. Ramnath came up short against Grumley in the fifth singles match 7-5, 6-2 and Maclean-Wood lost to Schorr 6-2, 6-1.
UMSL returns to the courts on Friday (Oct. 7) as it hosts Missouri Baptist at 1:30 p.m. at the UMSL Tennis Courts.
