KANSAS CITY – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team dropped a hard fought match at Rockhurst 1-0 on Friday evening at Bourke Field in Kansas City. The Tritons drop to 3-5-2, 2-3-1 GLVC while the Hawks improve to 5-0-3, 4-0-1 GLVC.
Neither side was able to break through in the first half as Rockhurst outshot UMSL 7-5 but the Tritons had three shots on goal to two for the Hawks.
Rockhurst scored the only goal of the contest 12:30 into the second off a corner kick. Valerio Tatafiore scored on a shot from 20 yards out that went off the inside of the left post for his first goal of the season. Max Banestig had the assist on the goal.
UMSL had a chance to tie the game in the 72nd minute but
Drew Schenk's shot was saved by Andrea Dorella. The Tritons had another shot at the equalizer in the 81st as
Arman Kovac's shot was tipped out by Dorella for a corner kick. Kovac had another chance with 5:05 remaining but once again was turned away by Dorella.
The Hawks finished the game with a 16-11 advantage in shots but only 7-6 in shots on goal. They also had a 7-5 edge in corner kicks and each side made six saves. Kovac, Schenk and
Bradley Fritsche had two shots apiece in the contest.
Austin Reis made four saves in goal.
The Tritons are back at home on Sunday (Oct. 2) as they host Southwest Baptist at 2:30 p.m. at Don Dallas Field.
