KANSAS CITY – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team had its two game unbeaten streak snapped on Friday with a 2-1 loss against Rockhurst at Bourke Field in Kansas City. The Tritons fall to 4-5-1, 2-3-1 GLVC while the Hawks improve to 6-1-2, 5-0 GLVC.
Neither side scored in the first 45 minutes but Rockhurst did outshoot UMSL 6-3 but each side had two shots on goal.
The Hawks broke the scoreless deadlock 4:13 into the second half.
Chelsea Riden was called for a foul in the penalty resulting in a penalty kick for Rockhurst. Lizzo Rosenthal stepped to the spot and converted the PK.
The Tritons had a chance shortly after as
Grace Osvath's shot was saved by Taylor James to keep the Hawks in front.
The Hawks extended their lead to 2-0 10:38 later as Anna Lantz scored on a shot into the lower left corner from 18 yards out for her third goal of the season.
UMSL cut the Rockhurst lead in half 1:42 later. Jacqueline Nieters was whistled for a foul resulting in a free kick for the Tritons.
Maya Ware served the free kick into the box and found
Cammie Robinson who was able to finish with a shot from eight yards into the lower left corner for her second goal of the season.
UMSL had three chances at the equalizing goal in the final 20 minutes.
Imogen Bennett missed a shot wide in the 74th minute,
Maddie Schweiss was robbed of the tying goal in the 83rd minute as it was saved off the line and then Schweiss missed a chance wide 1:15 later.
The Hawks outshot the Tritons in the contest 15-9 including 6-5 in shots on goal. Rockhurst also had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. Osvath, Schweiss and
Candice Parziani led UMSL with two shots apiece in the contest while
Mary Kate Neal made four saves in goal.
The Tritons are back at home on Sunday (Oct. 2) as they host Southwest Baptist at 12 p.m. at Don Dallas Field.
