ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Lewis on Sunday afternoon at Don Dallas Field. The Tritons are 4-2-3, 3-1-1 GLVC while the Flyers are 4-4-3, 3-1-2 GLVC.
UMSL had two great chances to get on the board in the first 11 minutes of play.
Josie Maddox took a shot towards the lower left corner but Bekah Nielsen was able to make a diving save to knock it out of play and set up a corner kick for the Tritons.
Jada Holloman had a chance in the 11th minute but Nielsen was there again to make a save.
UMSL got on the board in the 14th courtesy of a penalty kick. A loose ball in Lewis' penalty area bounced up and hit Grace DeVaux in the arm resulting in the penalty.
Emily Bloomfield took the kick, converting it into the left corner for her second goal of the season.
The Flyers had a chance at the equalizer less than 10 minutes later but
Grace Hastert as she made a diving save to deflect Mariana Pinto's attempt off the post.
Bloomfield had another chance late in the half as she tried to score off a free kick but it went right to Nielsen.
The Tritons had a 5-1 advantage in shots in the first 45 minutes including four on goal and had three corner kicks.
UMSL had a couple of chances early in the second half to extend its lead but couldn't put them away.
Lewis tied the game in the 63rd minute. Bloomfield committed a foul near the top of the penalty area from less than 20 yards out. Isabella Vargas tapped the ball to Elisa Aguilar and she tucked her shot into the lower left corner for her fourth goal of the season.
The Tritons had a few opportunities in the final 20 minutes but had only shot on goal as Nielsen made a save on an attempt from
Kennedi Hooks with less than 18 minutes remaining.
UMSL finished with an 11-6 advantage in shots including 6-4 in shots on goal and a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Maddox led the Tritons with three shot attempts while Bloomfield, Holloman and
Aubree Wallace had two apiece.
The Tritons return to the pitch this Friday (Oct. 6) traveling down to Rolla, Mo., to take on Missouri S&T at 5 p.m.
