ROLLA, Mo. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team had its two-game unbeaten streak snapped in a 2-1 loss at Missouri S&T on Friday evening at Jackling Field at Allgood-Bailey Stadium in Rolla. The Tritons drop to 4-3-3, 3-2-1 GLVC while the Miners improve to 4-3-3, 3-3-1 GLVC.
UMSL outshot S&T 3-1 in the first 45 minutes and had two good scoring opportunities. The first came in the 25th minute as
Kayley Judy took a shot towards the upper left corner but Anastasia Barcom was there to make the save.
The Tritons second attempt came in the final five minutes of the half.
Josie Maddox fired a shot from just outside the penalty area towards the center of the goal but Barcom made the save.
UMSL had a couple of chances early in the second half but was unable to get anything on frame.
The Miners struck first with a goal in the 60th minute. Beth Roberts intercepted a clearance attempt at the edge of the penalty area and fired a shot towards the upper right corner that beat
Grace Hastert inside the right post for her fourth goal of the season.
The Tritons had a chance at the equalizer later in the half but
Candice Parziani's attempt missed to the left.
UMSL had two more chances in the 87th and 88th minutes but neither were on target.
S&T got an insurance goal in the 89th minute. Amelia Mundo came on for Olivia Olson, carried the ball down the left side of the pitch and crossed it to Ava Hoenes at the edge of the box. Hoenes shot beat Hastert to the lower right corner for her second goal of the season.
The Tritons came right back scoring 0:37 later. Maddox took a shot from the edge of the penalty area that hit off the cross bar. The play was blown dead for a foul in the six-yard box resulting in an indirect free kick. Parziani took the kick and played it back to Judy who buried it into the upper middle of the goal for her second of the season.
UMSL was unable to get another crack at goal in the final seconds.
The Tritons finished the contest outshooting the Miners 10-6 with each team putting four shots on goal. UMSL also had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Hastert made a pair of saves in goal.
The Tritons are back in action on Sunday taking on crosstown rival (RV) Maryville in a noon contest at the Maryville Soccer Field. The Saints drew with McKendree 1-1 on Friday afternoon.
