ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision against Truman State at Don Dallas Field on Sunday afternoon. The Tritons drop to 2-7-2, 1-7-1 GLVC while the Bulldogs improve to 6-3-2, 5-2-2 GLVC.
UMSL had the wind at its back in the first half and controlled play on Truman's end of the field outshooting the Bulldogs 5-2 including 4-0 in shots on goal.
The Tritons had the game's first scoring chance in the 13th minute as
Gus Mantia took a shot from the center of the box that was saved by Justin Olwig but he couldn't control the rebound and the ball was cleared off the goal line to keep the game scoreless.
UMSL had another chance in the 25th minute as
Ty Gordon fired a shot from distance that was saved by Olwig.
The Tritons had two chances nearly a minute apart.
Nick Schreiber tried to head home a free kick inside the left post in the 27th minute but Olwig was there to make the save. Mantia had another chance in the 28th minute after a good buildup but his shot was right at Olwig.
UMSL had two more chances early in the second half.
Owen Sears fired a shot towards goal two minutes into the frame but it was right at Olwig and then
Jack Meuse had a chance in the 58th minute but was denied by Olwig.
Truman broke the scoreless deadlock with less than 20 minutes to play. Holden Potter cleared a ball in the Bulldog end and Corbin Clay won the foot race to it and chipped it over
Austin Reis. Reis tried to punch the shot away but instead it went into the goal for Clay's fourth goal of the season.
The Tritons had two chances in the final 12 minutes.
Ty Gordon took a shot from outside the box that sailed high in the 79th minute and 1:32 later
Bobby Boone took a shot from the top of the box that was saved by Olwig.
UMSL had four corner kicks in the final six minutes but was unable to put anything on frame.
The Tritons outshot the Bulldogs in the contest 10-7 including 7-5 in shots on goal. Reis made four saves in goal.
UMSL returns to the pitch this Friday (Oct. 20) as it travels to Springfield, Ill., to take on Illinois Springfield at 7:30 p.m.
