ST. LOUIS – Kayley Judy's goal in the 20th minute proved to be the difference in the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team's 1-0 win at Illinois Springfield at Kiwanis Stadium on Friday evening. The Tritons improve to 6-4-3, 5-3-1 GLVC while the Prairie Stars drop to 6-4-4, 6-3-1 GLVC.
The win also snapped UMSL's seven game losing streak against UIS and was the first win over the Prairie Stars since 2016.
UIS had the game's first scoring chance in the fifth minute as Madison Grandys put on a shot on goal that was saved by
Mary Kate Neal.
The Tritons first chance came in the 10th minute on
Jada Holloman's shot from up top that was saved by Allison Mirimanian.
The Prairie Stars had another chance in the 15th minute but Abby Dellamorte's shot was saved by Neal.
UMSL got on the board 5:20 later. Judy was played the ball and took a shot from roughly 35 yards out that bounced past Mirimanian into lower right corner for her third goal of the season.
UIS had a chance at the equalizer less than 90 seconds later but Neal stopped Dellamorte again.
The Tritons had two chances at extending their lead in the span of 2:30. Judy tried to make it 2-0 but her shot was saved by Mirimanian and then shortly after that
Kendal White hit a shot that was headed toward the lower left corner but a defender cleared it away preventing the goal.
Each side had shots in the first 45 minutes with UMSL putting five of their shots on goal while the Prairie Stars had four shots on frame.
The Tritons had three dangerous chances in the second half with two coming from Judy and the third from
Abby Rauscher but Miriimanian made all three saves to keep her team in the game.
UIS took five shots in the final frame but were unable to put anything on target.
The Prairie Stars finished the contest with an 11-10 advantage in shots but UMSL put eight of its on goal to just four for UIS. The Tritons had a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Judy finished with a game-high five shots including four on goal while Neal made four saves to earn her second shutout of the season.
UMSL plays its final road game of the regular season on Sunday afternoon traveling to Quincy for a noon kickoff.
