ST. LOUIS – Sophomore goalkeeper
Mary Kate Neal made a career-high six saves in the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team's 1-0 loss against Maryville at the Maryville Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon.
UMSL (4-4-3, 3-3-1 GLVC) had the game's first scoring chance in the seventh minute as
Jada Holloman tested Gigi Yurevich with a low shot on goal.
Maryville (8-2-2, 6-1-1 GLVC) had three scoring chances in the first 45 minutes. Its best came in the 27th minute as Ashlyne Hunt was alone behind the defense but Neal came off her line to deny Hunt's attempt.
Neal made a leaping save that took a goal away from Lexi Gentry a minute later as Gentry tried to score off a free kick into the upper right corner.
Neal made another outstanding save shortly before halftime as she was able to get her hand to shot off the foot of Emily Doane that was headed towards goal but she deflected it over the crossbar for a corner kick.
The Saints outshot the Tritons 9-2 in the first half including 3-1 in shots on goal.
Neal denied Hunt again early in the second half as Hunt hit a shot headed toward the upper right corner but Neal was able to jump and punch it away.
UMSL had a chance in the 53rd minute but
Josie Maddox's shot was blocked by a defender.
Maryville scored the game's only goal in the 54th minute in transition off a Triton corner kick. Maddie Dickerman carried the ball more than 50 yards down the left side of the pitch, crossed the ball to Hunt who was an open in the center of the box and she buried her shot into the lower right corner for her fourth goal of the season.
The Saints finished the contest with a 15-3 advantage in shots including 7-1 in shots on goal and had a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The Tritons are back at home this Friday (Oct. 13) hosting Upper Iowa at 5 p.m. at Don Dallas Field.
