ALLENDALE, Mich. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team dropped its season opener at third ranked Grand Valley 58-45 on Friday afternoon at the GVSU Fieldhouse in Allendale, Mich.
The Tritons drop to 0-1 while the Lakers improve to 1-0.
Amaya Blake led UMSL with a game-high 17 points on 8-of-16 shooting including 1-for-2 from three and pulled down three boards.
Jalysa Stokes added 12 points with one assist and two steals.
Morgan Ramthun led the Tritons on the boards, pulling down seven rebounds and finished with six points and
Tori Standefer had two assists.
UMSL shot 39 percent (21-for-54) from the floor in the contest including 2-of-8 from three and just 33 percent at the foul line. It outrebounded Grand Valley 32-26.
The Lakers jumped out to an early five-point lead and never trailed in the contest. They outscored the Tritons 18-10 to start the third quarter to build its largest lead of the game at 51-29.
UMSL held the Lakers to just five points in the final frame while scoring 14 itself to pull within 13 by the end of the contest.
Megan Crow led Grand Valley with 16 points while Droste finished with 15 points. Crow, Rylie Bisballe and Avery Zeinstra had four rebounds each.
The Tritons are back in action on Saturday afternoon taking on Davenport University at 1 p.m. (CST) at the Davenport Student Center in Grand Rapids, Mich.
