ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team used an early run and wouldn't look back in its 67-47 win over Davenport on Saturday afternoon at the Davenport Student Center in Grand Rapids, Mich.
The Tritons improve to 1-1 while the Panthers fall to 0-2.
Jalysa Stokes led UMSL with a game-high 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field including 3-of-6 from downtown and pulled down five boards.
Morgan Ramthun added 11 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Audrey Martinez-Stewart finished with 10 points while
Amaya Blake had a game-high four assists.
The Tritons gave up the first points of the game but seized control with a 15-2 run spanning nearly six minutes and wouldn't look back as it led by 14 at the end of the first quarter.
UMSL extended its lead to 40-18 late in the second quarter after two free throws from
Tori Standefer but a jumper by Jaci Walker cut the Triton lead to 20 at the break.
Davenport cut the lead to 15 midway through the third quarter but wouldn't get any closer as the Tritons led 51-33 at the end of three quarters.
UMSL opened the final frame on an 11-0 run to build its largest lead of the contest at 62-33 on a layup by
Brooke Woodyard with 4:52 remaining.
Lillee Gustafson was the lone the Panther to reach double figures in scoring with 11 points while Alexa Kolnitys and Isabel Lindo finished with eight points apiece. Gustafson also had eight rebounds and three assists.
The Tritons host University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in its home opener this Friday (Nov. 17) at 5 p.m. at the Mark Twain Building.
