ST. LOUIS – Jon Osa's second place finish in the 200-yard backstroke helped lead the 17th ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis men's swimming to a fifth-place finish at the GLVC Swimming and Diving Championships at the Deaconess Aquatic Center. The Tritons recorded 789 points at the five-day meet and matched their best finish at the conference championships.
Osa broke the school record in the 200 back with a time of 1:44.31 and improved his B-Cut time for the national meet by more than a second.
Conley Savage won the B-Final of the 200 back with a time of 1:47.03 and earned a B-Cut time for the national meet.
Guillem Masjuan Roca also earned a B-Cut time finishing right behind Savage at 1:48.15.
Sergio Santisteban Romero was seventh in the B-Final with a time of 1:50.57.
Aidan Clark took eighth in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:02.39 while
Aaron Wicklund finished eighth in the B-Final at 2:03.28.
Mason Stimson came in 16th in the 1,650-yard freestyle at 16:15.81 and
David Reynolds was 24th in the 100-yard free with a time of 46.17 seconds.
The Triton 400-yard free relay team of Masjuan Roca, Clark, Reynolds and
Austin Stevenson was sixth in the A-Final in a time of 3:01.59 while the squad of Santisteban, Wicklund,
Ethan Boehle and
Will Nickel finished fifth in the B-Final at 3:07.78.
UMSL will now wait to find out how many swimmers it will have qualify for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships (March 8-11) in Indianapolis.
