ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's team dropped a 4-3 decision to Southern Indiana on Friday afternoon at the Evansville Tennis Center in Evansville, Ind. The Tritons drop to 3-2 while the Screaming Eagles improve to 3-4.
UMSL dropped the opening point of the match as Southern Indiana won two of three doubles contests.
Anna Domingo and
Anna Favaron defeated Abby Brown and Madison Windham in number two doubles action 6-4 but the team of
Maja Lietzau and
Hannah Tse fell to Lauren Rowe and Rachel McCorkle 6-4 at number one doubles.
The Tritons evened the dual at two wins apiece as Domingo defeated Rowe 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7) at number one singles and then Tse beat Windham in straight sets 7-5, 6-0 in the number three singles contest.
The Screaming Eagles retook the lead as McCorkle beat Lietzau 6-0, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8) in the second singles contest but UMSL evened it up as Favaron defeated Abby Myers 6-0, 6-3 in number four singles play.
The match came down to the last singles match between
Kaitlyn Challis and Brown in the fifth singles contest. Challis won the opening set 6-1 but Brown won the second set 6-4 to force a third set tiebreak. Brown won the tiebreak 10-7 to clinch the win for USI.
The Tritons return to the courts on Sunday as they travel to Marshall, Mo., to take on Missouri Valley at 12 p.m.
