ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team defeated Quincy 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Dwight Davis Indoor Tennis Center in St. Louis. The Tritons improve to 4-2 while the Hawks drop to 0-4.
UMSL won two of the three doubles matches to win the opening point.
Anna Domingo and
Anna Favaron defeated Mar Sarda Marti and Mahi Panchal 6-2 in the number two doubles contest.
Kaitlyn Challis and
Lisa Kirr secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Steffi Lao and Juliana Vidal in the final doubles match.
The Tritons picked up wins at number two and three singles as
Maja Lietzau beat Blanca Salas Cruz 6-3, 6-4 at number two singles and Tse handed Lao a 6-3, 6-2 defeat in the third singles contest. Quincy got wins at number one, four and five singles to even the match at 3-3 and set up a winner take-all match at number six singles. Challis dropped the first set to Katrin Ismailova 6-3 but rallied to win the final two sets 6-2, 6-2 to earn the win and clinch the match for UMSL.
The Tritons return to the courts next Saturday (March 11) hosting Harding at 1 p.m. at the UMSL Tennis Courts.
