Tritons Rally To Complete First Four Game Sweep Since 2015

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team rallied from a 4-2 deficit in game two of its doubleheader for a 9-5 win at Rockhurst on Sunday afternoon to complete its four-game sweep in a series since 2015. The Tritons (11-9) won game one 8-0.

Game 1 – UMSL 8 Rockhurst 0
UMSL scored runs in each of the first five innings in the opener on Sunday. The Tritons struck first with a two-out rally in their first at-bat. Brandon Olion singled to start the rally, moved to second on Justin Simard's infield single to short and to third on a throwing error by the shortstop. Olion then stole home for the first run of the contest.

Bryce Kulinski led off the second with a triple to left center and scored on Jake Isaac's two-out single to short.

Andrew Buescher led off the UMSL third with a double down the right field line and scored on Carson Holin's two-out double to left center. Holin scored on a throwing error by the pitcher for the second run of the inning.

The Tritons added two more in the fourth. Mitchell Green led off with a double down the left field line and advanced to third on a single from Isaacs. Green scored on a wild pitch and Isaacs advanced to second. Isaacs stole third and scored on Buescher's sacrifice fly to center.

UMSL put the game away in the fifth with a pair of runs. Green drove in Simard with a single to short and then Braedon Stoakes brought home Holin with a single to first.

That was all the run support that Nick Torres needed as he threw a five-hit complete game shutout to improve to 2-1 on the season.

The Tritons finished with 13 hits in the contest and were led by Olion, Holin, Green and Isaacs with two apiece.

Game 2 – UMSL 9 Rockhurst 5
UMSL trailed 4-2 heading into the top of the eighth when it scored five runs on two hits and two Rockhurst errors. The Tritons tied the game at four on a throwing error and a wild pitch. Olion came to the plate with the bases loaded and cleared them with a two-out triple down the right field line to put UMSL ahead 7-4.

The Hawks got a run back in their half of the eighth on Patrick Wind's solo home run to center with one out in the frame.

The Tritons added a pair of insurance runs in the ninth. Stoakes drove in Holin and Jared Bryant with a two-out single down the right field line. Dylan Wobbe worked around a two-out single in the ninth to earn his third save of the season.

UMSL had 16 hits in game two and was led by Buescher with four while Olion and Holin added three hits each. Adam Rose pitched four innings in relief of Jacob Arndt allowing one run on four hits with six strikeouts to improve to 2-1 on the season. Wobbe pitched the final 1.1 allowing only two hits.

The Tritons continue their nine-game road swing on Tuesday taking on crosstown rival Maryville at 2 p.m. at Weber Field in St. Louis.
