SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team had its two-match winning streak snapped with a 5-2 loss at Southwest Baptist on Saturday evening at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo. The Tritons fall to 5-3 while the Bearcats improve to 5-8.
SBU won two of the three doubles matches to take the opening point of the match. Paula Ballesteros and Lola Cincunegui defeated
Anna Domingo and
Anna Favaron in the number two doubles contest 6-3. Polina Paunova and Giselle Garcia knocked off
Kaitlyn Challis and
Lisa Kirr 6-4 in the third doubles match. The number one doubles match between
Maja Lietzau and
Hannah Tse and No. 41 Ghada Dirninger and Elsa Pascual was unfinished.
In singles play, Kirr defeated Paunova in straight sets 7-5, 6-4 at number four singles and
Anna Favaron beat Cincunegui 6-2, 6-4 in the fifth singles contest. The Bearcats picked up wins in the other four singles contests. Ballesteros handed Domingo a 6-1, 6-4 loss, Lietzau fell to No. 68 Pascual in three sets 5-7, 6-2, 2-6, Tse lost to Dirninger 7-6, 6-4 and Challis lost to Leticia Lutz 6-1, 6-2.
UMSL is back in action on Sunday taking on Rockhurst at the Overland Park Racquet Club in Overland Park, Kan., at 9:45 a.m.
