ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team fell in its Great Lakes Valley Conference opener at second ranked Indianapolis on Friday afternoon at the UIndy Tennis Center. The Tritons are 3-9, 0-1 GLVC while the Greyhounds improve to 12-2, 1-0 GLVC.
UIndy won all three doubles matches to take the first point of the contest. Atte Ehrnrooth and Louis Picaud defeated
Jose Mayorga and
Joshua Mackey 6-2 in the number one doubles match.
Juan Vigil and
Raphael Kerndl fell to Mathieu Derache and Erwan Momo 6-3 at number two doubles and
AJ Burrows and
Tanin Ramnath lost to Jason Noah Gerweck and Nikolaj Talimaa in the final doubles contest.
In singles play, Mayorga fell to No. 8 Edgar Destouet 6-2, 6-2 in the first singles contest. Vigil battled but came up short in his upset bid of No. 74 Picaud 6-4, 7-5. Kerndl lost to Talimaa 6-0, 6-2. Mackey fell to Derache 6-2, 6-3, Pascal Maclaen-Wood was defeated by Momo 6-2, 6-0 and
AJ Burrows lost to Axel Sabourin 6-4, 6-1.
UMSL is back in action on Sunday taking on McKendree at 10 a.m. at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis.
