ST. LOUIS, Mo. – AJ Burrows won his singles and doubles match on Sunday in the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team 6-1 loss to McKendree at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis. The Tritons are now 3-10, 0-2 GLVC while the Bearcats are 10-3, 2-0 GLVC.
Burrows and
Tanin Ramnath won their doubles match against Lorenzo del Biondo and Ryan Fung 7-5 but McKendree won the first two doubles matches to take the opening point of the contest.
UMSL fought hard in the singles portion of the match as four of the six contests were decided in a third set. Burrows won his match number six singles over Nanase Ebisu. Ebisu won the first set 6-0 but Burrows rallied winning the final two sets by scores of 6-3 and 10-6.
Raphael Kerndl won the opening set of his match against Tomas Leston 6-4 but Leston rallied to win the final two by scores of 6-3 and 7-6 (7-5) in the third singles contest.
Joshua Mackey dropped the opening set of his match to Antonio Velasco 6-4, won set two 6-1 but lost 6-2 in set three to drop his match at number four singles. Ramnath fell behind del Biondo in his match 6-2 after the opening set but won the second set in a tiebreak 7-6 (7-2) but lost the third set 10-5 in the fifth singles match.
Mayorga was defeated in straight sets by Leonardo Frederico 6-1, 6-2 and
Juan Vigil fell to Bendek Szombathelyi 6-3, 6-1.
The Tritons return to the courts this Saturday as they take on Maryville at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center at 11 a.m.
