ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team defeated Quincy 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Dwight Davis Indoor Tennis Center in St. Louis. The Tritons improve to 3-2 while the Hawks drop to 0-5.
UMSL secured the first point of the contest winning the first two doubles matches.
Jose Mayorga and
Joshua Mackey beat Ettore Pavesi and Zach Willing 6-3 in the first doubles contest while
Raphael Kerndl and
Juan Vigil defeated Sebastian Gomez and Samuele Contestabile 6-2 at number two doubles.
The Tritons completed the sweep winning five of the six singles matches. Mayorga handed Contestabile a 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 defeat at number one singles. Vigil beat Willing in straight sets 6-4, 7-6, Kerndl knocked off Pavesi 6-1, 6-4 and Mackey beat Brenden Everhart 6-3, 6-4 at number four singles. Tanin Ramnuth won his match over Gomez when Gomez had to retire in the second set due to injury.
UMSL returns to the courts on Sunday (March 5) hosting Hillsdale at 11 a.m. at the UMSL Tennis Courts.
