ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team came up short in a 4-3 defeat to Illinois Springfield on Friday afternoon at the UMSL Tennis Courts. The Tritons fall to 7-8, 0-4 GLVC while the Prairie Stars move to 3-8, 2-2 GLVC.
UMSL secured the first point of the match by winning two of the three doubles matches.
Maja Lietzau and
Hannah Tse defeated Eva Rubio and Marianela Landi 6-1 in the first doubles contest while
Anna Domingo and
Anna Favaron beat Franca Bucco and Riann Hsu 6-3.
In the singles portion, Domingo defeated Sina Skjelstad 6-4, 6-1 at number one singles and Tse beat Landi 6-3, 6-4 in the third singles contest. Lietzau lost to Rubio 1-6, 4-6 at number two singles, Favaron fell to Hsu 4-6, 3-6 in the fourth singles contest and Bucco beat
Kaitlyn Challis 6-1, 6-1 in the final singles contest.
The Tritons host Lewis in their regular season finale on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the UMSL Tennis Courts.
