ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team spilt its doubleheader with Indianapolis on Sunday afternoon to earn a split in the four-game series at the UMSL Baseball Field. The Tritons (14-15, 7-5 GLVC) won the opener 3-2 behind a complete game win from Adam Rose while the Greyhounds (14-11, 2-10 GLVC) won the second game 18-8.

Game 1 – UMSL 3 UIndy 2
The Hounds struck first in the opener with a run in the second inning. Denton Shepler was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. With two out, he stole second and scored on a single to center from Jared Bujdos.

UMSL tied the game in its half of the second as Leighton Keller led off the inning with a homer to left.

UIndy regained the lead in the third on Drew Donaldson's two out homer to center.

The Tritons came right back with a run in the bottom of the inning. After the first two were retired, Brandon Olion walked and advanced to second on Justin Simard's single to second. Carson Holin drove in Olion with the tying run with a single through the left side of the infield.

UMSL took the lead in the fourth. Mitchell Green led off the inning with a single to left and advanced to second on Bryce Kulinski's sacrifice bunt to third. Green went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Braedon Stoakes two-out single to short for what proved to be the game-winning run.

The Greyhounds had only one runner reach base over the final three innings but he was erased on a caught stealing in the sixth.

Rose struck out eight while allowing two runs on four hits and didn't walk a man to improve to 3-1 on the year.

The Tritons had seven hits in the contest and were led by Simard with two.

Game 2 – Uindy 18 UMSL 8
UIndy took the early lead in the second game with pair of runs in the first. Brady Ware drove in Brandon DeWitt and Donaldson with a double to left center.

UMSL cut the lead in half in its first at-bat as Holin drove in Stoakes with a sacrifice fly to right.

The Tritons took the lead in the second with a pair of runs on Kulinski's single to center that scored Green and Jake Isaacs.

The Hounds retook the lead scoring four runs on three hits in the fourth highlighted by Caleb Vaughn's two-run homer to left center that made it 6-3.

UIndy tacked on another run in the fifth as Easton Good doubled to left field scoring Bujdos to make it 7-3.

UMSL answered with two runs in its half of the half. With two out, Stoakes hit a solo home run to left center and Olion drove in Kameron Laskowski with a double to right to make it 7-5.

The two sides traded runs in the sixth and then the Greyhounds broke it open scoring seven runs in the seventh to extend its lead to nine. They tacked on three more in the ninth to make it 18-6.

The Tritons scored two in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI single from Niko Porcelli that drove in Laskowski. Porcelli scored the final run as he advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a throwing error by the catcher.

UMSL had nine hits in the contest and were led by Laskowski and Kulinski with two apiece. Brady Krile took the loss giving up six runs on six hits while walking four and striking out three in four innings pitched.

The Tritons return to the diamond this Thursday as they travel to Kirksville to take on Truman State in the start of a four-game series at 3 p.m. at the Truman Baseball Park.
