KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team dropped the opener of its four-game series at Truman State 16-1 on Thursday afternoon at the Truman Baseball Park in Kirksville, Mo. The Tritons are now 14-16, 7-6 GLVC while the Bulldogs are 13-17, 3-10 GLVC.
Truman sent seven batters to the plate in the home half of the first scoring four runs on four hits. Tal Dean led off the game with a home run to left and later in the inning Dylan Thompson drove in two more with a single through the right side of the infield. Luke Roussel drove in the final run of the frame with a single up the middle.
The Bulldogs batted around in the third inning scoring seven runs on five hits. Tyler Tieman hit a three-run homer to left to make it 7-0. Grant Beck singled home another run and Simon Murray hit a three-run homer to left for the final runs of the inning.
Truman extended its lead in the fifth on an RBI single from Luke Turner and a three-run homer off the bat of Holden Missey.
UMSL got on the board in the sixth as
Brandon Olion drove in
Braedon Stoakes with a two out single to right.
The Bulldogs scored their final run in the sixth on an RBI single from Beck.
The Tritons were held to four hits in the contest and were led by Olion,
Justin Simard,
Bryce Kulinski and
Jake Isaacs with one apiece.
UMSL and Truman continues its four-game series with a doubleheader on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m.
