ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team dropped both ends of its doubleheader against Lewis on Saturday afternoon at the Lewis Softball Field in Romeoville, Ill. The Tritons lost game one 7-1 and dropped the second game 4-2. UMSL is 23-15, 9-5 GLVC while the Flyers move to 21-14, 4-8 GLVC.
Game 1 – Lewis 7 UMSL 1
Lewis took an early lead with a run in the second. Sara Serena Serena led off the inning with a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice from Payton Wuske and scored on Carrie Anderson's triple to left.
The Flyers tacked on three more in the third on a two-run homer from Kristen Graham and a solo shot from Serena. Lewis extended its lead in the fourth. Graham drove in Gabbi Nilles and Delaney Garden with a double to center. Graham came into score later in the inning on a wild pitch.
The Tritons got on the board in the seventh on a sacrifice fly to center from
Irene Travis scoring
Jamie Widule.
UMSL was outhit in the contest 9-7 and was led by
Anna VanGundy with two of them.
Game 2 – Lewis 4 UMSL 2
The Flyers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in its half of the first in game two. Garden led off the game with a single to left and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Jalyn Powell drove her in with a double to right to make it 1-0. Serena then hit a two-run homer to right center for her second roundtripper of the day to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Tritons got a run back in the second. Widule led off the inning with a single, stole second and scored on
McKenzie Lamos' double to right. UMSL had a chance for more but Lamos was left stranded as Allie Wondrasek struck out the next three hitters.
Lewis regained its three-run advantage with a run in the bottom of the frame. With one out, Garden singled to center and advanced all the way to third on an error. Graham drove her in with a single to left.
The Tritons cut the Flyer lead in half in the seventh as
Annie Scaramuzzi hit a solo home run to left for with one out for her second long ball of the season.
UMSL was held to five hits in the nightcap with Widule, Lamos, Scaramuzzi,
Rebecca Littrel and
Megan Brown recording one each.
The Tritons continue their eight-game road trip next Saturday as they travel down to Rolla to take on Missouri S&T in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
