ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team continues its season opening five-game road trip as it heads to Kansas City this weekend to begin Great Lakes Valley Conference play against William Jewell and Rockhurst. The Tritons take on the Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and the Hawks at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Last Time Out – UMSL (1-0-1) picked up its first win of the season defeating Central Methodist 4-2 last Thursday in Fayette, Mo. The Tritons jumped out to a 2-0 lead less than five minutes into the game as
Devin Livingstone scored twice in the span of 0:19. The Eagles scored in the 12th minute to cut UMSL's lead in half and then scored the equalizer 1:35 into the second half. The Tritons regained the lead seven minutes later as
Melo Mensah scored the game-winning goal for his first of the season and
Ty Gordon added an insurance goal in the 78th minute.
GLVC Statistical Rankings – UMSL ranks third in the conference in goals scored with an average of 2.5 per game. Livingstone is tied for second in the league in points scored with four and tied for fifth in goals scored with two. Mensah is tied for second in the league in game-winning goals.
About William Jewell – The Cardinals enter Friday's contest with a record of 0-3 and have scored only one goal on the young season while conceding eight. WJC lost to Colorado Christian 3-0 in its home opener last Saturday. Alexis Ibarra is the lone goal scorer as he scored on his only shot attempt of the season. Jose Arellano and Olav van Zanten have split the minutes in goal this season. Arellano has allowed five goals while making 10 saves and has a goals against average of 3.11 while van Zanten has given up three goals, made seven saves and has a goals against average of 2.15.
About Rockhurst – The Hawks enter Friday's contest McKendree with a record of 2-1 and are coming off a 2-1 win over Fort Hays State this past Sunday. Rockhurst has scored five goals and conceded five goals in its first three games. Five different Hawks have scored this season led by Tomasso Tirabassi with three points tallying one goal and an assist. Fabio D'Errico has played every minute in goal and has made 14 saves with .737 save percentage and a goals against average of 1.67.
Series History – Friday's contest is the 12th all-time between the Tritons and Cardinals with UMSL holding a 10-1 advantage in the series. William Jewell snapped the Tritons 10-game winning streak in the series with a 2-0 win last season.
Sunday's match is the 27th meeting all-time between UMSL and Rockhurst with the Hawks holding a 15-6-5 advantage in the series including a 10-2-2 record at Bourke Field. Rockhurst snapped a three-game winless streak in the series last season with a 1-0 win in Kansas City.
